Statue Cleaning – James Starley

Coventry, the birthplace of Britain’s cycling industry, has a statue to commemorate one of its most of famous sons – 19th century inventor and manufacturer James Starley, who is often called the father of the modern bicycle.

With years of organic growth and carbon stains from traffic fumes, the marble statue of Starley had begun to look tired.

In 2006, as part of a city-wide restoration project, Coventry City Council commissioned EcoLogic to clean the statue and return the statue to its former glory.

Statue Cleaning Process

Ecologic cleaned the statue using a variety of environmentally-friendly processes that were chosen for their non-abrasive cleaning properties, EcoLogic removed all these stains, including the stubborn green oxidization marks, to bring the statue back to its original striking colour.

In addition, the deep cleaning technique will ensure the James Starley statue is kept free of oxidisation build up and organic growth for much longer than if traditional jet blasting had been used.
